Creation & Creationism

The Christian doctrine of creation asserts that God is the creator of all things, for "[i]n the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth" (Gen 1:1).
The Christian doctrine of creation asserts that God is the creator of all things, for "[i]n the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth" (Gen 1:1). God created by his word (Gen 1:3; Heb 11:3), and "[a]ll things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made (John 1:3). This creative act on the part of God was absolutely free, and for infinitely wise reasons. The cause of all things exists only in the will of God. While many passages show that Jesus was the agent of creation (Col 1:16; cf 1 Cor 8:6), creation is ultimately the work of the triune God. The work of creation is attributed (1) to the Godhead (Gen. 1:1, 26); (2) to the Father (1 Cor. 8:6); (3) to the Son (John 1:3; Col. 1:16, 17); (4) to the Holy Spirit (Gen. 1:2; Job 26:13; Ps. 104:30). The fact that he is the Creator distinguishes Jehovah as the true God (Isa. 37:16; 40:12, 13; 54:5; Ps. 96:5; Jer. 10:11, 12). The one great end in the work of creation is the manifestation of the glory of the Creator (Col. 1:16; Rev. 4:11; Rom. 11:36). God's works, equally with God's word, are a revelation from him; and between the teachings of the one and those of the other, when rightly understood, there can be no contradiction.

That the material of which the universe is composed was created out of nothing is the implicit, rather than specifically explicit, statement of the Bible. The Scriptural teaching on God and the relation of the universe to Him unmistakably affirms creation. God alone is declared to be underived, self-existent (Exodus 3:14), and in comparison with Him all things else are as nothing (Wisdom 11:23; Isaiah 40:17). God is said to be the beginning and end of all things (Isaiah 48:12; Revelation 1:8); all things else are from Him, and by Him, and in Him (Romans 11:36; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Colossians 1:16). God is the absolute and independent sovereign (Psalm 49:12 and Isaiah 44:24; Hebrews 1:10). That these texts equivalently assert that God is the Creator of all things finite is too obvious to call for further comment. The most explicit Scriptural statement respecting the created origin of the universe is found in the first verse of Genesis: "In the beginning God created heaven and earthy". The objects here designated evidently comprise the material universe. Kalisch observes (Gen., p. 1): "God called the universe into being out of nothing; not out of formless matter coeval with Himself" (Geikie, Hours with the Bible, I, 16).

Lactantius thus sums up the hierarchy of finality in creation: "The world was made that we might be born. We were born that we might know God. We know Him that we may worship Him. We worship Him that we may earn immortality. We are rewarded with immortality that, being like unto the angels, we may serve Our Father and Lord forever, and be the eternal kingdom of God" (Instit., VII, vi).

Creation - Impact
The position we take on the issue of creation vs. evolution has far-reaching influences in our lives. Science has enabled us to reflect upon our existence from infinite perspectives -- biochemistry (DNA), paleontology (Geologic Time Scale), and astronomy (Origin of the Universe). As inhabitants of one planet we ponder our uniqueness among an array of galaxies and a breath-taking universe. Evolutionists’ Big Bang Theory states Earth was a red-hot mass, which gradually cooled over billions of years. Somehow our home planet developed the right atmosphere and conditions to sustain over 6.5 billion diverse human inhabitants as well as lower life forms and vegetation. Was Earth randomly situated in space where a 1%+/- deviation in distance from the sun would cause us extreme discomfort? As individuals, we long to determine the purpose for our lives. Yet any theory presented as evidence for evolution insists our lives are accidental and without purpose, originating suddenly by chance from nonliving matter.

Creation - Timeline
Whether a telescope displays the magnificence of space or an ultrasound reveals the intricate creation of each unborn child, we are filled with awe. Genesis 1:1-2 poetically expresses God, The Creator’s, purposeful design. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” God created in unfettered freedom by His Word (command), and creation transpired by the separation of the elements of the universe, which produced an ordered and habitable world.
  • Day and Night – “God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness” (Genesis 1:4).
  • Sky and Below – “So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. God called the expanse ‘sky’. . .” (Genesis 1:7-8).
  • Land, Seas, and Vegetation – “God called the dry ground ‘land,’ and the gathered waters he called ‘seas’. . . Then God said, ‘Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it accounting to their various kinds.’ And it was so” (Genesis 1:10-11).
  • Sun, Moon, and Stars – “God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars” (Genesis 1:16).
  • Creatures in the Sea and Birds – “And God said, ‘Let the water teem with living creatures and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky’” (Genesis 1:20).
  • Creatures on Land and Man – “And God said, ‘Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind’ . . . Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, over all creatures that move along the ground’” (Genesis 1:24-26).
Here are the specific events that I think I see in this specific order in Genesis 1:
  • 1. Light (stars), Gen 1:3
  • 2. Sun formed, Gen 1:4
  • 3. Earth formed, Gen 1:6-9
  • 4. Oceans, water, Gen 1:10
  • 5. Grasses, Gen 1:11
  • 6. Seed-bearing plants, Gen 1:11
  • 7. trees, Gen 1:11
  • 8. sky clearing, to see sun and moon, Gen 1-14-18
  • 9. fishes, Gen 1:20
  • 10. birds, Gen 1:20
  • 11. small land creatures, Gen 1:24
  • 12. cattle, Gen 1:24
  • 13. large land animals, Gen 1:24
  • 14. man, Gen 1:26
If a human author had written Genesis 1 without God's help he could have presented/listed the 14 events mentioned in billion different sequences. How could a human author have selected the sequence, beginning with Light first and Man last, which has now (3300 years later) been shown to match the sequence that modern science accepts?

Creation - The "How"
Skeptics of Creation and evolutionists dispute, “Does God exist?” While science probes the “how” of our existence, man still ponders the “why” of his design. Science must operate within self-imposed limitations: 1) Science cannot give final, absolute answers, and 2) Science can only deal with that which is in some way observable and measurable in the physical universe. “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities -- his eternal power and divine nature -- have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).

Creation requires man to humble himself as he recognizes the greatness of a Divine One who chose to create us in His image, then to exalt us above all design. “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet” (Psalm 8:3-6).

Scientific Proof Of God and Supernatural Miracles

This very important movie disproves evolution, shows evidence of a world-wide flood, covers Biblical miracles, modern day miracles, Eucharist miracles, incorrupt bodies of saints and the Shroud of Turin. It has influenced non-Catholics to convert to the Catholic Faith. With other words, a must see movie!
